THE OPPORTUNITY


Scholastic _MATH_ and _DynaMath_ magazines, educational publications for grades 3-6 and 6-9 (respectively), use current events and real-world data to make connections to what students are learning in school. To that end, we are looking to hire an intern with a love of communicating math in exciting ways to young audiences.


YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES


The ideal candidate should have editorial and writing experience, preferably for children's publications, and a background in math. Teaching experience is a plus.This job requires an ability to think creatively to generate visually appealing, kid-friendly stories and come up with ways to use actual data to illustrate skills outlined in rigorous education standards like the Common Core State Standards for Math. This is a highly collaborative work environment; the right candidate will be able to fluently express him or herself during discussions with coworkers and in a group setting.


HOW YOU CAN FIT


oBachelor's degree in mathematics, mathematics education, English, journalism, or science

oAt least 2 years editorial experience, preferably in children's or educational publishing or equivalent graduate-level work

oExcellent attention to detail, process, and organization

oComfortable with and interest in data journalism and teaching mathematical concepts precisely and accurately

oKnowledge of the Common Core State Standards

oAbility to take initiative and work under tight publishing deadlines
